Situated on the northern coast of Cyprus, Kyrenia is the main holiday town of North Cyprus and its most charming resort. The town centre has a very picturesque Venetian fishing harbour and castle with a maze of beautiful old lanes behind the harbour. The coast has many sandy beaches, and the hotels range from small family places to big five star resorts on the beach. There is an excellent restaurant scene, and some good clubs and open air discos in the summer. Kyrenia is very rich in historical sites dating from the earliest settlement of Cyprus in paleolithic times. The town's hinterland is the Kyrenia range of mountains with its forests and the odd traditional village. The water temperature peaks at 28 C, and the waters are brilliantly clear with a visibility of 30m at 30m under, making it ideal for scuba diving. There are many watersports available as well as golf and other inland pursuits."
